An adventure of fairytale proportion. The ancient Romans grew their vines here and tended their fields, and the Portuguese are still carrying on today in traditional fashion. We like to refer to the Alentejo as The Tuscany of Portugal as the green and golden landscape will capture your heart and send you back to the days when Knights battled for their homeland atop their trusty mount. While your mount will be one of our TREK bicycles, we have no doubt you'll enjoy the rolling hillsides of cork trees, olive groves, and sunflowers. In the spring you can look forward to colourful poppies and a rainbow of other wildflowers painting the landscape canvas, and in the fall the fields will be a buzz with the harvesting of the grapes for the vindimas festivals. Each afternoon you'll explore a new village, cut from the storybooks with their narrow cobblestone streets, and old women in their traditional black attire slowly making their way toward the call from a distant church bell. There is nothing like the smell of fresh brick-oven baked bread to set off your senses, as you look forward to an evening feast on all the hearty goodness of the Alentejan specialties, sure to satisfy your palate, accompanied by some of the country's award winning wines. Enjoy a tender helping of Porco à Alentejana, with roasted new potatoes smothered in a delicate rosemary and onion sauce, the very aroma of which sends us off into nostalgia for those Sunday dinner's with our own family. The Alentejo has a way of making anyone, no matter their origin, feel at home. In a way, you simply...belong here. After dinner, enjoy your drink in the palace courtyard with friends, and later, drift off to sleep, dreaming of those Knights in shining armor.
